Constructivism and Teaching English - Assignment ExampleAlthough constructivism might provide a model of knowing and acquirement that has important implications for classroom practices, it does not translate neatly into a set of pedagogical practices. The implementation of the constructivist approach is still deserving discussion and clarification. This paper will highlight challenges associated with implementing constructivism in teaching English to speakers of other languages. Much writing has been done about theories of constructivism and the connection to superior learning results however, there is no consolidated discussion of the foundations, results, and practical issues of constructivism. According to Marlowe and Page (1998), even when teachers recognise the value of and want to use constructivist approaches in their classrooms, their efforts often constitute less than what they expected. There have been attempts to make constructivism operational so that classroom teacher s can more rapidly apply constructivist theory to practice. The problem is that the application of constructivism in classrooms is neither widespread nor systematic. Constructivist propositions can seem fairly simple but hundreds of observations of and questions from pre-service and in service teachers over the past 10 years turn up that they are not. Teachers and administrators who already work with constructivist reform initiatives need guidelines to help with the implementation. Moreover, development of a constructivist view of learning as a basis for instruction implies first harmonic changes.

Vulnerable Population and Self-Awareness Paper Essay

Vulnerable Population and Self-Awargonness Paper - Essay ExampleThis impairs their quality of life by decreasing their subjective health and increasing depressive symptoms. aloneness among widows could lead to cognitive decline and increased need to use health services available to them. This paper applies criteria in selecting a vulnerable people, studying the populations demographics and reflecting on personal attitudes and values towards that population. There are over 13.7 million widowed individuals in the United States, with over 11 million of this issue being women (Jenkins, 2009). Female survivors have outdistanced the men by an increasingly widening margin with women now re depictative of eighty percent of the population of widows in the US. In 1940, there were approximately twice as many widows as there were widowers, with this ratio climbing to 41 and expected to continue rising in the future. Several factors can explain this disparity between the two sexes. First, wome n have a longer lifespan compared to men with women living into their advanced years to a greater extent than men do. Second, most men will marry women who are younger than they are, which increases their probability of outliving their spouse. Thirdly, widowers persist to remarry more than their female counterparts do therefore, men tend to leave widowhood more than women do. 65% of women aged 65 and above are widowed, which reflects their greater life expectancy (Jenkins, 2009). Widows in addition undergo longer periods of grieving accompany by feelings of guilt and retrospection of a past relationship mistakes. Before the demographic research, my view of widows was one of grief and loneliness. It seemed me that they were, in too much grief, to reckon marriage due to their attachment to their late husbands or even out of respect to their children and the memories that they held of their late father. It also seemed that widows complained all the time, especially when in public. This was especially so with elderly widows who came to social meets by themselves. I thought that they had no more reason to complain than widowers did, some of whom I knew personally to be very good-humoured characters. However, after this demographic study, it is now clear that widows have very limited chances of remarrying. Despite their loneliness and want for companionship, by the time they get to 65, there are very few men available for re-marriage. The emotional loneliness that they experience is a subjective response to lack of mention and close attachment. When they lose their husband, who was an intimate attachment, their identity becomes impaired since they have no one to foster a feeling of security, which leaves them in a state of isolation and aloneness. The demographic study also brought me closer to their social isolation. Whereas I thought they were socially isolated because of unending grief, it became clear that this was caused by lack of a social networks, or e ven dissatisfaction with their present social network. A lack of social integration makes them feel that they do not have friends. Social researchers feel that social isolation is can be measured by contacts and integration the widow has with the surrounding social environment (Owen, 2009). Healthcare professionals are in good positions of helping the elderly women suffering from loneliness, which in turn, leads to suffering from health problems. However,

The invent set out by Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed provides a contemporary and culturally compassionate platform for the urb an development of Abu Dhabi city. The main values outlined by the government for determining the growth of the city under Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, are that, Abu Dhabi will continue to be a current appearance of an Arab City, where the people maintain a healthy and supportive lifestyle. However, this kind of massive expenditure requires a plethora of studies and researches, there are many things to consider for instance the economic outlook, real estate development, sustainability, evolving culture and environment, opportunity and connectivity. A specific kind of research method must be use for the above mentioned factors in order for this plan to be carried out successfully. The number one thing to be reviewed is the actual vision of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed. Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 should be deeply studied, so that to fully understand which direction His Highness would equivalent to point Abu Dhabi towards. One must understand whether he would prefer to pass his culture and develop the c ity within the guidelines, or develop the city with a baseline of his cultural heritage adding to it the modern ways, or would he wish well to completely move away from the cultural side and move towards a modern and innovative city. As per his plans mentioned on September 21st 2007, he would like to evolve the metropolitan into a global city without loosing the Arab culture. Literature Review for Proposal - Research Paper ExampleThe enquiryer attempts to carry out this research thoroughly, to examine as many dimensions of this methodology as feasible and necessary. For this purpose, the literature review go out cover all the aspects of bawl stated above. Finally, the review will examine the different contexts where the researcher could carry out the necessary research in the most beneficial way. This brief review aims to discuss the existence of CALL and the development that it has undergone in the field of language reading, as well as the teaching. It will non describe the basic features of CALL again, since the introduction of this research project has already shed some light on that. According to research, CALL used to focus on disciplines like artificial intelligence, information processing system science, and psychology. Currently, however, researchers have spy its development in the area of language teaching and learning. CALL commencement exercise became popular in the field of language learning when it was a major shit in Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI), which is when computers are used as instructional tools to fulfill the requirements of the student group (Ruffin, 2000). There is a one-line definition of CALL states earlier in the proposal. However, other experts still argue over the different interpretations of this term and this debate is especially relevant to the role of CALL in the field of language learning and teaching. There are several other terms for CALL as well, for example Computer-Assisted Learning (CAL), Computer-Enhanced talking to Learning (CELL), Web Enhanced Learning Language (WELL), Intelligent Computer Assisted Language Learning (ICALL), and Computer-Medicated Communication (CMC) (Johnson, 2008). Apart from the debate, which exists on the actual term itself, there is also another debate relate to the history of CALL, about its origins and development. One side of the debate believes th at CALL has been in existence since the 1940s, after World War II (Johnson, 2008). Others, however, believe that the Americans made the first use of CALL or CAI, in the 1950s. Furthermore, Chapelle suggests that the use of this methodology in language learning and teaching did not begin until the 1960s. Even then, he specifies that they did not use it commonly in the face of necessity. Instead, it was only as a luxury, which was not part of ordinary classrooms, but used for a specific learning group. In addition, some experts also add, perhaps as a way of explanation for this, that there were a very few teachers present until the 1970s who were computer literate, only they were able to fully implement the use of CALL in their classrooms (Ruffin, 2000). Research shows that the Americans first implemented CALL in Stanford Universitys Mathematical make up (Swarbrick, 2002). Experts (Swarbrick, 2002) recognized it very early for its efficiency and benefits, and realized the importance of its development and emergence. However, due to its requirement of expensive technological equipment, it was not used in classrooms until a lot later. For instance, EVDAC (Swarbrick, 2002), the first computer in the 1960s has the price of over half a million dollars. In the 1980s, this price had gone down, but not by much, as the Model 30

Psychoanalytic criticism interprets the text in terms of the characters thoughts and interpretations on various issues in the novel. When a reader utilizes this type of criticism, they seek to go past the literal events in the story and analyse why certain incidents occurred throughout the novel.According to Sigmund Freud, the three main personalities that a person has are the id, super ego and ego. Idan mortals id is their desire for necessities. This is an irrational part of our mind that always tries to fulfill our wants instinctively.Superegothis refers to an individuals conscience. This personality is the exact opposite of id it attempts to make decisions rationally and carefully.Egothis is the most important personality that a person has. It is responsible for finding a poise between an individuals superego and their id. This is a logical part of the mind that is driven by the reality principle. If a persons ego is in check, they can make beneficial decisions in their lives.Freud believes that that all humans have these three personalities within them. Teaching children Essay Example for Free

Teaching children EssayWhile it is necessary to monitor the programs that children are viewing on television, it is also important to understand that children do not realize the concept of what is real and unreal at an early age. Teaching children to blend in media skeptics is expecting them to think and rationalize like adults. In the essay, Remote Control How to Raise a Media Skeptic, Susan Douglas narrates how she tells her young daughter to become a more discriminating television viewer. The author is not against children watching television as evident in her statement, I am not one of those virtuous, haloed parents who has banished the box from the home. She points out that beating up with TV provides her daughter with a form of cultural literacy that is important for the childs growing years. She only wants her daughter to understand roughly what is on television and why it is there. It is an act of showing the child that whatever she sees on commercials is not what it is in reality. She believes that talking to children about what they see on television and what is unreal is important in raising them to become media skeptic. It is similar to giving them the skills and the tools to know that not everything is genuine on television because advertisements are there to attract us to buy products that are not as good as they are presented on TV. By nature, children are attracted to toys that are colorful, with moving parts and attractive sounds and media knows how to attract the very young consumers. Children prefer anything that stimulates their senses. They do not have the capability to understand about safety, durability, and cost. They are just kids who want to play with their toys. When they are in the toy section, they willing pick toys that are seen on cartoons shows or TV commercials. When I was a child, I never had parents like Susan Douglas. My parents never pointed out what is good on television or what is real and unreal with what we see o n the commercials. As we grow up, we have our own ability to know whether we are being fooled by the advertisements or whether they are telling us the truth. I believe that as dour as we are studying, talking with people and we are exposed to all forms of media, the knowledge of determining what is real and not real will come of course even without the intervention of the adults.Being a media critic, the writer Susan Douglas is sensitive to whatever she views on television. There is also a strong tendency for her to push her opinions on others and influence them on what she believes is real and what is not real. She monitors her daughter well and fears the effect of media on her child. Although there are positive and negative effects of television on the young viewers, I also believe that we should keep tract on what the children are viewing. However, I do not agree that children should be trained to become media skeptics at a young age.Adults should allow their children to be chi ldren. Pointing out everything that is right or wrong on television will affect the imaginary minds of the children. It will also spoil the fun of making children enjoy the toys that are in the market. We should not hasten the growth of the child and make them think like adults. I do not agree with the statement that one of the best words to use when youre watching TV with your kids is stupid. Adults do not have the akin imagination as children. What is stupid for adults may be fun for the kids. In time, children will know that ladies do not have perfect figures like the Barbie dolls and that some(prenominal) males and females do household chores and change babies diapers. Susan Douglas method may be effective because children trust the opinions of their parents and regard them as an authority figure. However, since most of us were not taught by our parents to be media skeptics, I believe that her techniques will not be fully acceptable to all parents.

Two Separate Levels of Governance at a Teaching Hospital Essay Example for Free

Two branch Levels of Governance at a Teaching Hospital EssayDr. Darrick Kent (2007) is an assistant professor of family medicine, director of curriculum and head of medical knowledge systems at a teaching hospital with a popular residency training program. The hospital has twain hundred and seventy beds with faculty and residents making virtually five hundred and sixty bedside patient visits every week. According to Dr. Kent, the organizational size of his hospital with approximately two hundred and ten people working on different shifts during each month is substantial enough for him to try out new methods of regime as in charge of the medical selective information systems. In other words, he would like to ease the presidency of the installing by all meat with the use of latest technology. As an physical exertion, Dr. Kent has saluted the in-person Digital Assistant (PDA) to all members of the faculty as well as residents at the hospital. According to him, it was n ecessary to introduce the PDA to the residents and faculty members across the ease. He knew that his colleagues would benefit from the PDA that makes it easier for everybody to communicate across the facility, and is also loaded with trusted references (Kent). Because of his decision, the facility is currently using its coursely budget for electronic medical references from Skyscrape Inc. These references are the same as the actual books written by some of the worlds best medical authors and change by top medical publishers (Kent). Throughout his day at the teaching hospital, Dr. Kent is approached by his colleagues with a variety of questions, not only about medical information systems but also about the medical practice in general. Especially in times of emergency, Dr. Kent is considered a ready reference for information about drugs as well as diseases. Despite the PDA in everybodys palm, Dr. Kent is considered by his colleagues as a superior authority on medical information be cause of the restiveness felt by the new doctors and nurses at the facility (Kent). Still excited about the PDA, which was introduced at the facility in 2005, he explained this part of his job with an example The other day I was presented with a case of myocardial infarction by way of calls received from the emergency room physicians in order to round a patient. With my PDA in hand, I did not have to go to my office and open up the Griffiths 5-Minute Clinical Consultant before checking its index. Instead, I simply typed MYO on my PDA and got all the information required to send back to the emergency room physicians in the matter of moments. At present, Dr. Kent is seriously considering the presentment of nursing informatics at the facility. According to him, nursing is a scientific discipline with a focus on information or knowledge. Hence, nursing informatics, too, is pore on the easy access of crucial information to nurses. Indeed, nursing informatics has the power to embrace a ll pieces of information that a nurse would require at any time.Whether it is patient data or information about medicines that is required by a nurse at any given time, the help that information technology can provide in accessing required information cannot be discounted. With Dr. Kents decision to ground appropriate nursing informatics at the facility, nurses would no longer have to flip through book after book to find needed information at a time of emergency (Kent). No longer would they have to go searching for doctors either (Kent). Also according to Dr. Kent, everybody is considered a colleague at his facility. Even the nurses are nowadays enjoying the concept of divided governance in practice (Kent). Linda Chavez (2007), an acute care nurse at the same facility confirmed Dr. Kents report on shared governance for the nurses. She has worked with the teaching hospital for thirteen years. Now a teaching nurse (for acute care) at the healthcare facility, Ms. Chavez is thrilled a bout Dr. Kents decision to install nursing informatics which would make her job much easier. She has little part to play in this decision of Dr. Kent or other senior members of the hospital. Still, she has recently fall in a council chemical group at the hospital with nurses and other members of the facility making joint decisions that usually have a dramatic impact on the timberland of patient care. The council group has already been consulted about the introduction of nursing informatics at the facility. However, the final decision rests with Dr. Kent, Ms. Chavez explained. The council group considers all of its members as equals. Nevertheless, the seniority of the directors of the facility remains unperturbed. Moreover, everybody at the facility is not invited to become a member of the group. The final decision about the group members rests on the directors of the facility, and they are allowed to remove anybody from the group at whatever time they will (Chavez). The council gr oup that Ms. Chavez joined in late 2006 is responsible for evaluating the status quo, besides recommending changes that the members deem necessary. Nevertheless, she emphasized that her role in governance is strictly restricted to recommendations (Chavez). Ms. Chavez is grateful that nurses may now join the council group upon invitation at the facility. The concept was first introduced at the hospital in the year 2005. Ms. Chavez explained the importance of nurses joining the council group thus Back in 2005, some of the nurses in the council group complained about Coumadin, a blood thinner that many of the patients at the facility were administered. Seeing that changes in blood consistency often put patients at risk of fatal bleeding or clotting, and we had no procedure in place for determining how regularly patients should return to get their blood tested this issue raised by nurses was an extremely important one. So, the council decided to Two Separate Levels of Governance at a Te aching Hospitaladdress it once and for all. There was extensive research conducted, after which the hospitalissued new guidelines based on the findings of other council members. For Ms. Chavez and the other nurses that are currently a part of the council group, it is invigorating to join hands with the physicians in implementing important changes across the facility. Even so, directors such as Dr. Kent have the upper hand (Chavez). Also according to Ms. Chavez, nurses have always taken their limited role in the governance of a healthcare facility for granted.Although the council group is a breath of fresh air, most of the nurses at the facility are not allowed to join it yet (Chavez). Because the facility where Dr. Kent and Ms. Chavez work would always be a teaching hospital, the directors are considered authority figures and physicians rarely are (Chavez). All the same, both interviewees remain generally satisfied with their particular levels of governance (Chavez Kent).ReferencesC havez, L. (2007). Personal Interview.Kent, D. (2007).
